President Trump has signed a proclamation postponing the tariff hikes on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities until at least 2027. This is a good sign for Vietnam and China supply chain, the two major furniture importers.

Before 2025 comes to an end, the U.S. President, Trump signed a proclamation marking the postpone of the tariff hikes on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and vanities. The implementation of Section 232 Tariff is being pushed to 2027.
The new tariffs ordered by Trump in September on kitchen cabinets and upholstered, which took effect in October, cost significant rates rise to 50% and 30%, respectively, by 2026. Thus, the latest order leaves tariffs on these goods at 25% for the time being, which is good news for the furniture category.
Stated from the official announcement from White House, it says, “The United States continues to engage in productive negotiations with trade partners to address trade reciprocity and national security concerns with respect to imports of wood products,”

The concerns about affordability have increased among American households, however, Trump argued that those tariffs could lower the costs for his citizens. The Americans criticized Trump administration for not being able to stabilize prices since taking office in early 2025, partly because of tariffs imposed on a variety of products. Prices had surged on furniture even before 25% tariffs due to levies on most goods from Vietnam and China, the top two sources of furniture importer.
