Unexpected strong weather hit ‘CMA CGM TIGA’ in Malta: 58 containers dropped into the ocean

According to the carrier, while the vessel is in her southbound journey heading to Levant from Europe, she faced the strong weather conditions off Malta. In result, 58 containers dropped into the ocean, some containers have been reported damaged on the vessel deck. 

There have been no reports of crew injuries, and the ship is still completely seaworthy. According to preliminary data, there were no hazardous materials in any missing containers at sea. Thereby, the risks to maritime safety and the environment are minimized. After promptly alerting the appropriate authorities, CMA CGM will travel to Malta to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the situation and take the necessary actions to guarantee a safe trip.
